LONGER BIO
ANJUN JIA is a playwright, screenwriter, and creative producer who writes for gen Z, first-gen immigrant, and queer/transgender audiences. His stories are usually about LGBTQ+ people of colour and their pursuits of freedom, respect, or vengeance. This commonly means dysfunctional families, extraordinary people in ordinary circumstances, and anti-heroic protagonists.
Through centering marginalized narratives, he intends for his stories to contribute to a cultural fabric that is more interconnected, empathetic, and human than the present zeitgeist. It would have been his dream to have staffed BOJACK HORSEMAN, GLOW, or BEEF.
Currently, his play SHOWSTOPPER is going up at the 2026 Toronto Fringe Festival, and his feature film SEPHONE is in consideration for the 2026 TIFF Sloan Science and Technology Writer Fellowship. His episodic projects, half-hour comedy BOHO TEA CO. and one-hour drama ELYSE KILLS MARGO OR DIES TRYING, are in the proof-of-concept stage.
Previous film and television credits include: Director of CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' (2023), set production assistant on Misha Calvert's ALPHA / BETA (2023), and post-production assistant on Mijie Li's MILES TO GO BEFORE SHE SLEEPS (2022).
Anjun was a development intern at RAIMI PRODUCTIONS, creative-consulted for the NYU PRODUCTION LAB, and supported the industry programming office at TIFF.
Additionally, his scripts have been table read at the 2020 TIFF Next Wave Creators Showcase, workshopped at the 2021 Sundance Institute Collab TV pilot seminar, and staged in 2022 at West London’s Bush Theatre.
